“Is humanity destructive?”, part 3 of the new series "The energetic grid of the universe" by Karin Sawetz

The truth is that power and money tend to make people unscrupulous towards others. Let's take the prominent philanthropists. In reality, most are hobby do-gooders who primarily fund their own stage on which they can appear as benefactors. In a more just society, where not a few hold most of the power and money, charitable activities wouldn’t be needed." Naomi vents her anger. The first contact with the Illumis happened in space some weeks ago and it has turned out that humans are seen as having a faulty design. The deficient being 'human' has not only limitations in terms of physical abilities. Paul, the physicist of the first-generation ‘Gen 1’ of space researchers best known for his pioneering discoveries about antimatter, was the first to suggest that the Illumis had a reason for contacting the crew of the spaceshi

Demian turns sideways in his armchair and looks for something on the bookshelf.  "Yes, but what does that have to do with it now? I took care of the problem. It has been solved by my team," reminds Naomi.   Demian stands up and leaves the lounge area. He walks through the corridor of the ship. "I checked the routines again and the functionality. We were able to calibrate the translator on the common basic program bibliotheca to their form of communication. The bug is fixed, thank you. The Illumis have observed us humans since the earliest beginning and the malicious implementation of the bug was registered by them as typically human. They estimate humans as destructive beings driven by no need and in many cases of non conclusive reasons which could justify harmful behavior. The bug in th

"We waited so long for a sign of intelligent life in outer space and have overseen that the Illumis have been already living among us on earth. " Demian walks through the spaceship. It's a newer model with self adjusting rooms and corridors where the nine members of the research team have lived since they left earth six months ago. The video communicator-drone follows him and creates a film-like live stream with various close ups of Demian with changing focus on the face, his wild hair,  beard, or his fine slender but strong hands. The drone program edits the stream in thriller-mode selected by Demian to match the visual dramaturgy of the live video better with the occasion. The drone program cuts the video and includes scenes showing the ship inside in changing wide angle perspectives, recordings captured by the outer space cameras, and pictures of the Illumis such as the entities are cal

“Have old power structures caused the bugs in the AI?”, part 13 of the series "After The Pandemic. A Fictional Story" by Karin Sawetz

"What happened after the pandemic? Was there a point in time that the pandemic was officially over? Or were the people so exhausted or so occupied with their ‘burn out’ - such as it was fashion at that time I learned in the history lessons - due the inflation and the war sceneries in Europe and Asia that they didn’t adequately appreciate the end of the health crisis? It was such an effort to develop the medications and organize and to comply with all the protection measures. Was it an unsung end after all the achievements of the people, the health system and the sciences?"    Joyce listened to her daughter Sarah and remembered last year’s family meeting during Christmas time. “Last year you wanted to know if the data about grandmother Naomi collected during the pandemic are still available. And Snowball with its special access level to data answered you the question.”  Sarah throws the orange gum ball to Sweetie. The German shepherd jumps and catches the spiky toy and bring

“What was going on in Austria in 2022?”, part 12 of the series "After The Pandemic. A Fictional Story" by Karin Sawetz

"Was it necessary to integrate Austrians in Austria? What happened at that time?" Sarah, the grandchild of Naomi, is concerned about the story her mother and uncle are discussing. Demian, the brother of her mother Joyce, was back after his space mission failed. The reason for the unplanned return to earth was the finding of a computer bug placed in a simple routine. So simple that it was built as standard in the most common applications and became essential for the functionality of everyday devices like kitchen machines to space ship navigation systems. Naomi stands up from her comfortable fauteuil and walks to the window consisting of several panels with artful Gothic-like colorful glass paintings showing scenes from the revolution 70 years ago. As a young woman, she had joined the movement for a more equal society and believed to have decided well. "No, it was not necessary to integrate Austrians to Austria. But we had no time to observe all the institutions and some a

Naomi's world just falls apart. The scientist has always believed in her abilities to estimate her work’s impact on society and politics. How could it happen that she has overseen the scam?  Naomi is alone in her large mansion. It was built over decades on the ground and the foundation of a region-typical old farmer's house. She walks through the garden along the alley seamed with trees carrying various fruits. She named her invention for the creation of the special customizable artificial tree seeds ‘Fruitti’. The tutti frutti ‘Fruitti’ seeds can be designed individually after preferences.  Each of the alley’s neutral basic trees is equipped with nano-technology and can carry up to eleven different sorts of apples, cherries, or apricots, pears, etc. The trees in her garden are from the first generation of the Frutti seeds. They are programmed to grow in the trunk like an original apple tree from the region and to develop various fruit tree-typical branches. T he seeds are set

“How time flies. Two weeks ago we sat here together and enjoyed the Valentine’s  flower bouquets and now Emil and Demian leave the planet again,” says Naomi with bitterness in her voice, looking at grandson Emil and son Demian. The family met again in her house waiting together for the shuttle of the space station Neowise. From there in 23.000 kilometers height they will start the space flight to the next wormhole transfer point. A risky passage - even when the human-made wormhole transfer leads to better results nowadays than in the beginning. Some of the early passengers landed at undefined time and space coordinates because the systems on earth broke regularly. The technology had to be adjusted for the jump.  “Do you know which galaxy and time you will explore at your next jump?” Sarah asks her uncle and brother with a worried look in her eyes. “No, this is always top-secret, “ Demian answers, “We still have the problem that some countries don’t work in a team. Sometimes it seems

“Valentine's Day in times of the pandemic with relaxed measures”, part 9 of the series "After The Pandemic. A Fictional Story" by Karin Sawetz

“Do you have a Valentine's Day story for us, grandma?' Sarah decorates the flowers on the large table made of raw wood with some artful inlaid work which is showing objects and landscapes. A table without technology is a rare object in grandmother Naomi's home.  It’s the 14th February 2079.  The tableware, fine porcelain with spring-flower decoration, is already placed for the family dinner. "Valentine's day had changed in the beginning of the pandemic such as many other traditions like dancing through the night in elegant ballrooms that weren’t practiced due to new behavior schemes caused by necessary distance rules or mask regulations. It wasn't the same like before 2020. Valentine's Day was associated rather with romantic situations like those of two people who meet for fine dining in the hope to start a new relationship than with tokens of love between married couples. But Grandfather started the 14th February deflorestation of my garden already befor

Almost one year has passed since Naomi invited her daughter Joyce and granddaughter Sarah to her home and farm, where she plants innovative new garden fruits at the high-tech glasshouse. The architecture of the Grand Palais-like building cites late 19th, early 20th century Viennese Modernism and the style of Otto Wagner. Three generations of women who are living in the time now as contemporaries but witness the presence from different life angles due experiences collected under politically and socially constantly changing circumstances.  The Christmas surprise of one of the last meetings, the snowball AI had become already part of Joyce's life journey before the mid-40 years old even knew that there exists an especially for her from the friends of her mother developed artificial intelligence program.  The AI - called after its first appearance 'Snowball' - was enabled by Joyce for Sarah and Naomi as a practical family communication tool which takes part of the conversat
